CONTEMPLATING KOPITIAM & KAMPONG WA’ HASSAN

Contemplating Kopitiam and Kampong Wa’ Hassan cross-references verbatim texts collected from interviews with a cast of young actors from the Millennial Generation, with texts from two seminal plays by Kuo Pao Kun and Alfian Sa’at—one a Chinese playwright from the Pioneer Generation, the other a Malay playwright from the Post-Merdeka times, to question on how we have fared thus far on our nation-building journey.

Directed by Oliver Chong, the BA (Hons) Theatre Arts students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts excavate subjective truths, instead of a singular collective voice, in search for an interpretation of the Singaporean sentiments on happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.
